Mayor Town and the Department of Technology: A Vision for the Future of Technological Governance
Introduction
Mayor Town (www.mayor.town) will be an innovative technology initiative spearheaded by the Department of Technology (www.department.technology), a grassroots civil society organization dedicated to technology-centric advocacy. Our mission will be to champion the establishment of independent departments of technology at all levels of government: federal, state, county, and local.
While Mayor Town is currently a conceptual idea of tech governance, we are hard work beta testing various technologies. Currently we are not yet beta testing in towns. However, we are exploring future partnership with towns to beta test our technology initiatives.
Our Vision
We will propose a multi-tiered approach to technological governance:
1. Federal Level: A Department of Technology will be led by a Secretary of Technology—a cabinet-level position confirmed by the US Senate.
2. State Level: A Secretary of Technology will be elected state-wide by voters.
3. County Level: Technology departments will be led by elected officials (e.g., supervisors or commissioners).
4. Local Level: Municipal departments will be headed by directors of technology elected by city, town, tribal, or local voters.

Join Us in Shaping the Future
At the Department of Technology, we will firmly believe that transparent, accountable, and responsible technology governance will be essential for protecting human rights, fostering economic prosperity, and ensuring security in our increasingly technology dependent society. Mayor Town is our technology initiative for smaller than city government entities like towns, tribal governments, and others.
Our Mayor Town project will be more than just an online space—it will be a beta test for exciting new ideas that will empower voters, residents, businesses, and taxpayers. We will believe that the implementation of technology departments should start at the local level, creating a foundation for broader change at the county, state, and federal government levels.
We will invite you to collaborate with us in urging your local mayors and leaders to work alongside the Department of Technology. Together, we will build a more technologically advanced, democratically engaged, and prosperous future for all.
